The Derrick Club Standard of Water Safety

The pool is supervised by a team of highly qualified lifeguards who are committed to providing a fun, safe, clean environment for your family.

Your safety is our number one concern. We have established a number of carefully considered rules and regulations to help protect all members.

Children 4 years old and younger – An adult must be in the water within arm’s reach at all times.
Children 5 and 6 year olds – An adult must actively supervise a maximum of 3 children at all times. To swim in the main pool with active supervision a 5 & 6 year old must complete the swim test.
Swim Test – Complete a 25-meter horizontal front swim, exit the pool and jump back into the deep end of the pool, and tread water for 30 seconds with ears out of the water. A parent and a lifeguard must supervise the swim test. Children unable to complete the swim test have the option of staying in the teach pool or completing the swim test with a lifejacket on.
All swimmers under the age of 12 must be able to complete the swim test to the lifeguard’s standard in order to swim in the main pool.
Definition of Actively Supervising - A parent or a designated care giver 14 years or older must remain close, vigilantly supervising, with their eyes on the child at all times.
Before and After Lessons
During lessons both the teach pool and main pool are busy, so the lifeguard might ask you to wait until a class is over before entering the water.
Infants and Toddlers
Infants and toddlers are required to wear approved swimwear before entering any pool (no diapers). Swimwear on preschoolers should be snug around the legs so the possibility of a fecal matter incident is lessened. Please take your children to the bathroom and warm shower located on the pool deck prior to entering the pool.
The Aquatic Facility is a Shared Water Space
Showering is Important!
Everyone must take a cleansing shower before entering the swimming pools to avoid carrying dirt, bodily secretions, bacteria, and/or residue from hygiene products into the pool. Ideally you wet/scrub yourself from head to toe to ensure the swimming pools remain clean and sanitary to swim in.
Members 17 years or younger are required to wear a wristband when you come to the swimming pool.
Staff Emergency Doors
Please do not use the doors to the main lobby as they are intended for staff or emergency access only. Should you need to speak to someone on deck please use the Sunroom Café entrance or the locker room stairs.
Hot Tub

The recommended maximum time for the hot tub is approximately 10 minutes and cool down for an equal amount of time before going back in. If you are pregnant or have a medical condition, please consult your doctor before using the hot tub.
